CBDs ABCs

Cannabis

Refers to the entire plant family that includes both marijuana and hemp.

Marijuana

A cannabis plant with high levels of THC and varying levels of CBD.  Has been getting people high since the days of the ancient Greeks.

Hemp

A cannabis plant with high levels of CBD and low levels of THC. It is also used to make rope, textiles, milk and more.

Cannabinoids

Naturally occurring molecules found in cannabis plants. There are well over 100 cannabinoids – CBD is just one.

THC

Short for tetrahydrocannabinol, this is the cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant that’s psychoactive (gets you high).

CBD

Also known as cannabidiol, this is one of the cannabinoids found in the cannabis and hemp plants that does not get you high.

Terpenes

This is the primary component of most essential oils found in cannabis (and other plants) that give it the distinct smell and flavor.

Flavonoids

Flavonoids are a group of plant metabolites.  Quercetin, Apigenin, and Cannaflavin A are three flavonoids found in cannabis. Cannaflavin A is uniquely found in cannabis and is a strong anti-inflammatory. Quercetin is also found in green tea, red wine, and berries. Quercetin acts as an antioxidant and anti-viral agent.
